Brooke goes to the dentist
Brooke made her first trip to the dentist and did awesome! I still can't believe it. I had myself prepared for the worst and thought that nothing would get done this time around. I even had researched a pediatric dentist just in case. I have been hyping up the whole dentist thing for a few days and really laid it on thick today.
The hygienist cleaned my teeth while Brooke was on my lap. She told her everything she was doing and Brooke was interested in what she was doing and talking the entire time. I got the usual lecture about flossing but everything looked good on my part.
Next was Brooke's turn and she wanted to stay on my lap. She sat still and let the hygienist do her thing. Brooke still has one more 2 year molar to finish coming in but all 20 are accounted for and now polished clean and pretty! Whohoo Brooke!
Picking out a prize.

Speaking of looking old

Hey, where did those teeth come from?
Brooke has been slow with getting her teeth. She will be 3 in November and I wasn't sure she would ever get her 2 year molars. I have heard horrid stories about their kids getting their 2 year molars so I wasn't wishing them on although I knew they should be in. I wasn't really checking for them and just figured something would be up that I would blame on teething. I certainly wasn't sticking my fingers in the girl's mouth to count teeth. Getting them brushed twice a day is enough. Wouldn't you know while brushing her teeth tonight I caught a glimpse of half a tooth way back there. Sure enough, they have ALL poked through. Way to go Brooke, we didn't even know it. Did I mention how old I think she looks in these pictures?

Dreaded big girl bed brings on fears
The transiton had to be done and really hasn't been terrible but not the easiest transition for anyone. You see those "toddler rails" that should be keeping her in bed and not half in half out? How the blood has not rushed to her head so much that her body would automatically wake her to turn over I don't know. If her hair were longer it would be touching the floor.
Turn off the light and BAM she is awake whining for the light to go back on. That's right people, the big girl bed has brought on a fear of the dark. Started pretty much that same night we made the transition. Now mind you she is not left in the dark by any means. The neighbors spotlight on their flag lights up our house at night so much you don't need to turn on a light to get up to go to the bathroom. She also has a nightlight and the twilight turtle light. I could read a book in the girl's room! She has used that turtle so much on blue that it wouldn't work on blue anymore so we had to switch it out with Lindsey's. So poor Lindsey has the one that now only works on green or amber. Lindsey didn't seem to mind and it saved us all from hearing the screaming.
Brooke doesn't get out of bed much at nap time or bedtime. So we think! Once she is in that is it and she knows it. Thank goodness for the video monitor. We showed her right where it was and even showed her the bed on the screen so she knew we could see her. If I catch her creeping off the bed I go upstairs and as soon as she hears the creaks in the steps she is face first diving back to bed pretending to be asleep. Instead of getting out she just lays there, "Mommy, I gotta poop, Mommy, MOMmy, MOMMMY, I gotta poop". Also her next test for us. I know she is thinking, what all can I ask for to prolong bedtime, a drink, bathroom, more books, go rock in my chair, turn my music up, or some wierd new found special toy that we will never find. She is good people, GOOD. Brooke has decided that she must poop every time it is nap time or bedtime. I have to give the girl props, she tries her hardest to make sure even the smallest something ends up in the toilet and gives me that "told ya" look.
She does sneak one by us on occasion. I will go in to get her and find books or Little People under the pillow or hear her music restarting in the middle of the night. Even the one morning she decided to join me in bed after the darn garbage men woke her up.
So although the transition hasn't been perfect we are figuring it out as we go and she is proud to tell everyone she has a big girl bed now.
