Rain, Rain

All we have seen is rain after the tease of warm weather last weekend. Brooke ran downstairs after waking up yelling, "play outside". I told her it was raining today. What was her reply? Boots and raincoat Mommy. Who can resist an answer like that? He face lit up when she saw the puddles in the driveway and I just let her have fun with it.

Lindsey is quite the roller

Lindsey has become quite the roller. This video is just from Tuesday night and by Wednesday she would have herself over on her belly in no time. This is great because you can see it is purposeful. Lindsey tries really hard to get on her belly. She may not always be happy once she realizes she can't get back over just as easy. She has rolled from her stomach to her back but hasn't mastered it as fast as this. She get herself on her belly and her butt comes off the floor with her arms out to her sides like she is swimming. It is the funniest thing to see. We can't wait to take her to PT tomorrow and let Jodi know everything she has done this week. Her arms have always seemed to be a little weaker than her legs but they have started to catch up. It is so funny to hear the tinkling of her toys in the car turn to crazy tinkling as she throws the toys around that dangle from her car seat handle.

Lindsey, we are so proud of your latest accomplishment. You are an amazing determined little girl.

Ahhh, the outdoors

It may have been hot the last few days but we are all happy to slather on the sunscreen to get outdoors. A girl I work with gave us this little house that her 2 girls outgrew. Brooke loved it so much she had dinner in there Saturday and Sunday night.

She loves pushing around her real looking stroller with her baby. I think she seriously could go around the block with it for hours.

Lindsey enjoying the outdoors in her pack n play.

A good day for Lindsey

Start with the not so good. Lindsey Hib vaccine was in so we made at stop at the Dr. to have that done. She was asleep when I pulled her out of the carrier and I don't think she was even awake enough when they gave her the shot because she just flashed the nurse a what the heck look and didn't whimper a bit.
Lindsey has rolled from back to stomach twice this evening! We have not actually witnessed it. I was playing with her on her mat and heard that it was time to add the fabric softener so I ran downstairs and back up to find her grunting on her belly. Tim also had her on her mat while he was cleaning the kitchen and heard her starting to fuss. Upon walking in to check on her he too found her on her belly. Silly girl.
Lindsey also had her 6 month BAER hearing test. When we walked in I thought they were just going to do the simple OAE screening test they did the last 2 times. The tech said she had called the Dr. because they had scheduled us for an audiogram which involves putting her in a sound both and she would raise her hand depending on which side she heard the noise. Yeah, don't think any 6 month old is doing that. Anyway, so she had it clarified and thought we could just do the BAER if she cooperated. She kinda looked at her bright eyed and awake asking, "you think you can get her to sleep?". Of course, I said, but I think she was a little weary.
She hooked her all up to the electrodes and by the time she left the room to get the ear probes and return I gave her the thumbs up that she was out and whispered, "told you I have a good baby". No time at all and she said it was perfect, nothing to worry about. She couldn't believe how fast she was done and said she was going to talk about Lindsey for weeks.

First food pictures

What? Food? Give me some!

We started with rice cereal at 4 months and after 2 days of that, no poop, no more.
She looks so little compared to the rest.

Oatmeal

Follow up with prunes. Baby needs some help getting rid of that oatmeal.

Pears

I know, green veggies, orange veggies, and then fruit but a girl has got to go.

Peas

See not phased that she had a taste of fruit first.

Green Beans

Still more yummy food pictures to come.

My little girls

Everyone remember this cute outfit from last year? Christa wanted to take Brooke for a sleepover a couple nights and my parents wanted Lindsey at the same time. I was able to get so much done. It is amazing what I can get accomplished when uninterrupted. One big project was going through every one's closets and going through the girl's clothes in the attic. While having her try on summer clothes I realized that some of her outfits from last summer would still fit her. Sure enough, they still fit! I think the only thing that may have grown from last summer is her hair. Well, that and her attitude :) Check out Christa's blog for some funny pictures of Brooke's sleep over fun.

Lindsey proves once again that she is a peanut. One thing that I thought was going to be nice having them born the same season was the clothes would all just go right along with them. WRONG! Almost everything I had from Brooke are 9 month sizes and Lindsey is just starting to outgrow some of her 3 month Carter's but in 3-6 months for everything else. It made me sad for a little bit, there were so many memories of Brooke in those outfits and what she was doing at that age. Just another reminder that Lindsey is going to grow and move at a different pace. One look at that face and those eyes just melts your heart. I can't help but give her sweet little kissses between those neck rolls. I cannot imagine Lindsey any other way.

6 Months

Lindsey is 6 months old! Can you believe it?

Lindsey is the happiest most laid back baby I have ever met. She goes with the flow and never complains. Her open mouth, tongue out grin is contagious and makes anyone smile when she is flashing it back at them. She has rolled from tummy to back quite a few time and is trying really hard to get from back to tummy. There are many times when I have shouted, "You are just about there". Lindsey has great head control and loves to sit up with support to study the world with those big blue eyes. She is definatly an observer taking everything in and studying every detail about it. Anytime she catches sight of Brooke she just looks like she is processing it all for future reference. What Brooke is able to get away with, what makes us happy, and what doesn't fly with us. Soon enough they will be telling secrets and tag teaming us.
Lindsey loves food, not leaving a drop to waste or a spoonful to lick. She has now had rice cereal, oatmeal, prunes, pears, and peas. At 12.5 lbs she is in 3-6 month clothes and a size 1 diaper.
Playtime is a great time for her. She loves to hold her toys and swipe them past her mouth. Everything goes straight to her mouth and she prefers her thumb over the pacifier. A good thing because she soothes herself back to sleep without a wimper but may be a bad habit to break when she gets older. Sorry Lindsey, Mommy is no help, I know how it is. I was way too old when I finally gave up sucking my thumb and put away my favorite blanket. We have been trying to get her to grap her toes but she prefers to sit back and look at them moving overhead as she tickles them with her other toes. You just keep having fun, Lindsey.
Happy 1/2 a year, we love you!

Full Ponytail

We can pretty much get all of Brooke's hair up in one big ponytail. She looks so grown up. I am trying to grow out her hair but the hair in the eyes drives me nuts. There are days when I say I am just cutting bangs for her. Must.resist.the tempation. and wait for everything to grow out. Until then it's clips, ponytails, and her constantly pushing her hair out of her eyes.

Dr. appointment stats

Lindsey had her well visit with Dr. Guntsch today.
12 lbs 5 oz (50th percentile)
23 1/4 inches (25th percentile)
Head circumference 40.5 cm
She let the nurse know the Barbie sticker wasn't going to make up for the pneumococcal vaccine. There is a back order on the Hib vaccine so she will get that once it comes in.
We stopped and had her thyroid check done. She put on a brave face and made it through the heel stick like a champ.
She is due for her 6 month hearing test so we have that all set up for next week.
Doing great and happy as can be!

Outdoor fun

Yesterday was such a nice day that we were outside most of the day enjoying the sun. Lindsey tried out her exersaucer and wasn't real sure what to think about it. Her toes just touch the bottom but she can't support herself with all the wiggle room in the seat and kinda flopped around in there until we stuffed the seat with blankets. The fun lasted a few short minutes before she protested for something new. She wanted to get all those toys around her but just couldn't reach them.

Happy Birthday Carrie

Happy Birthday

Pop Rocks

Grandma put a package of pop rocks in Brooke's Easter basket. We weren't sure what she would do with the crackling and popping party in her mouth.

Bathroom talk

Seeing as how Lindsey is so close to 6 months I started introducing solids to her. We started a while ago trying rice cereal and it seriously constipated her so we had to stop that. I tried some oatmeal last week and it had the same effect. Instead of all these glycerine suppositories we had to do with the rice cereal I though we would try some prunes. Poor baby, her first fruit will always be prunes. She made a funny face and then decided maybe they weren't so bad. Now if we could just work on that tongue not pushing it all back out we would be in business. The outcome? Prunes Satuday and nothing till Tuesday with 3 in a row after some pears.
Bathroom humor from Brooke. She is playing Yahtzee. I take it she has taken a lesson from her Dad. Lets just hope she doesn't try to stand and pee next.
Hope you enjoyed getting caught up on Brooke and Lindsey's bathroom habits :)

Not 1...

Brooke and Lindsey sat on the Easter Bunny's lap three times. Guess that means three times the candy this year.

Tim took them to Bass Pro Shops Friday night for some easter egg hunting fun and pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Saturday was the easter egg hunt at the gym.

and last but not least the easter egg hunt with the Down syndrome group.

Happy Easter!
Love,
Tim, Kelli, Brooke, & Lindsey

Oh yes

I have had a lot of people ask me how Brooke did with the easter egg coloring. Oh, yes she still freaked out when she saw what it was doing to her hands.

Bubbles, Bubbles

A few warm days and we broke out the bubbles. We are so tired of being indoors through the winter that any time we can spend outside we are there. Brooke enjoys walking around the neighborhood and Lindsey prefers to take a ride in the jogging stroller or the carrier. Sunshine and fresh air is good for us all.
Brooke loves her bubbles. She still gets it a little close to her mouth at times and ends up with bubble mouth, YUCK! She gets some pretty good bubbles going and just laughs and laughs watching them yelling "up high" or "pop". The delight in a 2 year old's eyes from something as simple as a bubble is priceless.

Little Lindsey

Some days are still hard. Brooke's personality is flourishing and her milestones are never ending. I didn't realize the things I used to take for granted with Brooke until Lindsey came along and showed me a new path. Wondering and the unknown can be the worst part. Looking at other children Brooke's age that have Down syndrome can really bring you back to reality and is heart wrenching. If they are just milestones, why do I put so much significance on them?

Easter Egg Coloring

Brooke has been really excited about Easter this year. She won't stop talking about it since seeing the Easter Bunny last weekend. She keeps saying he is bringing her eggs and candy. Coloring eggs is all part of the fun when it comes to easter time. She loved all the colors.

Brooke decorated them with crayons, stickers, and the skrinky wrap things.

Lindsey joined in the fun even though she prefered to try and suck on them instead of coloring.

Finished eggs.

Super Dad

Working nights on the weekends leaves Tim to bedtime routine which can get hectic with the two of us. Many times Brooke and Lindsey are due for a bath on the same night. I admit, I am a scardy cat when it comes to bathing babies. Brooke, no big deal, but babies are just so little and slippery. Tim does it with ease and put Lindsey right in the tub with Brooke. Both in, bathed, out, and dressed, bottles, stories, no problem. He makes it look easy!
