Playing Hide & Seek

Brooke loves to play hide and seek. If she can't see you she doesn't think you can see her. Brooke hides her head behind legs, under covers, and even under the bed. Yes, she has gone completely under the bed to explore. Now I really need to vacuum under the beds!

Some things never change...

When I took this picture I realized that even though she has gotten bigger her expressions have remained the same. Also, proof that she is getting some hair. January 2008 Just imagine her being able to lift her head. January 2007

What a Good Little Helper

Brooke tries to help me with everything, including feeding the dogs. She keeps dropping puffs into their bowl....

and claps with pure excitement because she is so proud of herself.

Ahhh..Just Another Day at the Spa

Brooke enjoyed her warm bubble bath and getting her nails done in her pink plush robe. Such a pampered little girl.

Excellent Customer Service?

I didn't really think this existed anymore. When I noticed the personalized B in Brooke on her anywhere chair from Pottery Barn was raveling all I thought was great, "I'm screwed". I haven't even had to wash the thing. Like a bad girl I didn't save any of the invoices or receipts. I called customer service and they were able to pull my information right up by our last name. From there I was placed on hold, once again I just thought, "forget it, you are left with a chair that will eventually only say rooke". To my surprise, I was told that a new one would be shipped and would arrive in about 7 days. They would check each letter to be sure the stitching was tight before it shipped. I don't even need to ship the old one back! She told me to keep it until the new one arrives and do whatever I would like with it after that. Excellent customer service still does exist! Hooray! Yet another reason to love Pottery Barn.

Musical

This harmonica was given to us. I say this because in no way would I have never bought this obnoxious thing. I now have come to realize why my parents would hide some of our "noisemakers". I can specifically remember a bird whistle thing that required you you to add water to make it "chirp". The thing was always hidden on top of the vanity in one of our bathrooms growing up. Anyway, we entertain her long enough to make her happy and usually stuff it somewhere hoping that she will forget about it. A couple days later she is running at you pushing it to your mouth ready to dance. In our heads we are thinking, "noooo, where did she find that". Who can resist that face, so we do it again as she claps and dances all around.

Stinky Fish

I admit I am bad at giving Brooke a variety of foods. If I don't like it I find myself not trying it with her. It is so gross to taste something you hate in order check the temperature. I do it though because there are many things that I don't like that she loves (pancakes with maple syrup, eggs, some of the baby food that smells more like cat food, etc.).

Brooke loved tuna salad at Grandma's house so I decided to let her try some fish. This was her reaction:

I made the same face about how bad the house smelled.

Bye Bye Bottle

Brooke has been taking her milk for a sippy cup pretty much since we started her on whole milk but I never thought she was getting enough. The pediatrician recommended 16 ounces a day. Therefore, we still gave her a nighttime 8 oz bottle of warmed whole milk and she would usually down it. Tim's mom noticed last week that she was spitting out her juice that had been in the fridge, like she does with her milk. Brooke normally won't put her sippy cup down when she has juice. We decided to try warming her sippy cup milk to see what happened and boom it was gone. Needless to say we haven't had any trouble getting 16 ounces in her anymore. Bottles are getting packed up! Whoohoo no more parts to wash. Yet another sign that she really is getting to be a big girl.

Oh great, Elmo 24/7

This what Dad found for Brooke over the weekend...

Now when she spots the computer she runs up to it pointing and yelling, "Elmo, Elmo".
Will she ever get enough of Elmo?

Another Toofer

Brooke's 7th tooth appeared on Monday. Last weekend she started with the runny nose all over again so we knew something must be popping through. She won't let us look or feel in her mouth so we pretty much have to wait to see the white pop through to know for sure. Every other one has been in pairs so we will see if this one has a friend come along.

Brooke of all Trades.

She cooks,

She cleans,

and does the dishes.

Laci is a Blogger!

Add another to the list of bloggers. Laci and Matt have joined in the fun and to keep us up to date with the Balsters. You gotta see their Puggle. Nala looks so fat compared to Macy. Hmmm now to guess if they are having a boy or girl. http://www.thebalsters.blogspot.com/

Swaddlers?

Pampers must think its time for me to do the pregnancy thing all over. I just received a gift pack that read, "everything to get your newborn started". The size 1 swaddler diapers are so darn little. I can't believe Brooke's butt used to fit in one of those. I did get some pretty darn good coupons though. If I start getting cans of Similac in the mail I am going to think one of you is up to something! All you preggo mamas out there make sure you sign up for this stuff you really do get some goods in the mail.

Congrats to the Chacks

Everything went well at their ultrasound and they also found out that junior will be a girl! Maybe I should start charging to guess the sex of babies. I am 3/3 just in this last month. Yeah, I know 50/50 shot. Just lucky guesses. Or are they?

Just Her Size

Or Not
Brooke and I went to see a friend I used to work with at the hospital. She has a daughter, Skyler who is almost exactly a year older than Brooke. It was so weird to see what Brooke will be doing in a year. Skylar has a roomful of toys and this is what Brooke charged for. She could hardly carry the ball but she made sure that she showed it to me. They have kinda been her new fascination. You would have thought they little girl won the lottery. So anyway we all had a good time and plan to do it again.

Brooke-Proofing

1. Bathtub Never leave your child unattended in a bathtub or bath ring. Install no-slip strips on the bottom of the tub.
2. Toilets Install lid locks on all toilets and keep the lid closed to
prevent drowning and to keep the lid from slamming on your
baby's head or hands.
3. Medicine cabinet Keep all medicines in containers with
safety caps and store them in a locked cabinet.
4. Electrical appliances Unplug hair dryers, razors,
and other devices when not in use, and store them out of
reach.
5. Water To prevent scalding, set your hot water heater
to a maximum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Check! Oh wait,
For Brooke I have added:
6. Drawers Place locks on all vanity drawers so she does not lock herself in the bathroom!
Yes, that is right, Brooke locked herself in the bathroom tonight by closing the door and then opening a drawer. The entire house is baby proofed but naturally Brooke will find a way. We couldn't get our hands through the small opening to get the drawer closed. Luckily after telling her, "Brooke, close the drawer" a few times she followed the command and closed it so we could get in. I guess nothing is ever "Brooke proofed".
Hmmm, maybe I should stop posting every mishap. You all are probably thinking, OMG what next? Call CPS. Don't they watch their kid? I promise you we watch Brooke, I am exhausted at the end of the day from chasing, er ah I mean watching her. She will never cease to amaze me.

Play that Funky Music

Brooke's dancing moves at the O'Donnell wedding.
She spent the night out on dance floor waving her arms round and round or walking around the table waving to everyone.
Congratulations Mike and Crystal!

Truckin'

Brooke spent last weekend with Grandma & Papa. These are a few highlights:
The best thing about this picture is knowing that my nephew got this truck for x-mas. He is now 13 years old! This thing outta make it through all the grand kids.

Brooke loves to "talk" on the phone. Whenever she spots one all you here is, "who that, who that".

Who are you talking to Brooke?

IDK by BFF Jill No night would be complete without at bath. Apparently Brooke wanted to wash her face with the Mary Kay Anti-Aging cleanser. Silly Brooke, you already have a baby face.

Thanks for the pics Grandma. Brooke is going to miss her overnight stays. Have fun in Florida.

I Birthed a Monkey

This first one was actually taken before christmas when we had to move her chair to make room for the christmas tree. She would manage to get it wedged over in front of the recliner so she could climb up to sit and rock on the recliner.
Recently, she has figured out that she can make it up to her glider without any assistance to rock and page through her books. Busy, Busy!

Geez, I just realized this is my 100th post.

The Case of the Missing Shirt

I am sure all of you recall me going crazy looking for Brooke's shirt. I looked everywhere and made everyone else look everywhere. Nothing! Her shirt has been missing since probably late September or early October. Guess what was sticking out of Brooke's dresser drawer last night? The missing shirt!

I swear I pulled all those drawers looking for it. I was so excited that I had found it that I put it on right over top of her existing outfit so pay no attention to the mismatched polka-dots. I am just amazed that it still fits!

Thanks Honey!

Tim came home yesterday for a short lunch. Once he gave Brooke kisses good-bye and left I received a text message:

You might want to check Brooke for poop. I think she was stinky when I left.
Seriously? One sniff and sure enough time for a diaper change. Nice. Thanks for the info Tim! Don't worry I get you back sometime when you least expect it.

Morning Brooke?

Why another picture of a sleeping baby? Well, this picture was taken at 10:45am. That's right am, and no this is not a nap this is still bedtime sleep. Brooke has been doing this since Christmas. She used to wake up at 8:30 on cue every morning but now she has morphed into her mommy's sleeping habits. Merry Christmas to me? She does still go down for bed at 8:30-9:00 but this is just screwing with the whole schedule I have had for awhile. Breakfast when? Nap when? I am sure there are many mommy's out there that wish their baby's slept like she has, so I am not complaining. Like mother, like daughter, we like to sleep!
Update: Brooke was up at 11:45. That means breakfast was at noon!

Who has more fun?

Brooke or Dad? They love sitting on the floor and playing with Legos. It usually goes like this, Brooke hands Dad a Lego, and he creates a new monstrosity for her to tear down and they do it all over again. I gotta say they are creative!

Couch Potato

Finally, all new episodes are back. Tonight it will be Desperate Housewives. Thanks to TiVo, the greatest thing ever I don't miss an episode despite working Sunday nights.

A new episode of Grey's Anatomy follows on Thursday at 9.What is Tim most exicted about this week? An all new American Gladiators starting Sunday at 9 on CBC. Anyone else remember staying up late to watch episodes? Still some of the same challenges: joust, assault, and hangtough minus big permed hair and mullets.

How about those Michigan Wolverines!?

What a great game! Llyod Carr ended his coaching career with a 41-35 victory over Florida in the Capital One Bowl. Go Blue!

Chuck E Cheese Anyone?

Okay so I decided to take Brooke for her first trip to Chuck E Cheese today. Not what I remembered about the place. I could swear everything was much bigger when I was younger. No more ball pits either. I know they were filled with germs but they sure were fun for us. Probably the only thing that hasn't changed are the characters on stage. Brooke loved when they would break out singing and dancing.

Oh yeah and now Brooke has graduated. They told me today that I no longer have to call for an appointment to take her to the gym with me. She has been great with Tim so I thought I would try it today. I haven't had the heart to go since her meltdown. I walked in the door after my workout and there she was walking around the place playing. Whoohoo! Now I have no excuse not to get there so I can win the weight loss challenge. Now I just need to get rid of the ice cream.

2008

Hope everyone has a healthy and joyful 2008. Good luck with all your resolutions.
What are my resolutions? Well of course the same top resolutions: save more money and lose some weight. Tim and I decided to make a challenge out of it. Whoever loses 10% of their total body weight first wins a prize. Oh and they are good prizes. I have been admiring a Nikon Digital SLR camera while Tim has had his eye on a new Sony digital camcorder. No cheating, only diet and exercise! Let the games begin!
Brooke's resolution? She won't tell.

How we spent New Year's Eve

During the holiday season, the Zoo is transformed into a winter wonderland. The "Lights Before Christmas" holiday even features over ONE MILLION lights, and over 200 images of animals. We made it just in time to see the lights on New Year's Eve.

Tim and Brooke are in front of an 85 foot Norway Spruce that is adorned with 32,000 white lights. That is more than the famous tree in Rockefeller Center. There was no way I could fit the whole thing in a picture. This picture doesn't begin to give it justice.

Brooke loved to dance along with the "Dancing Light" show that featured LED lights synchronzed to classic holiday tunes.
